
Preventing Clinical Depression
Clinical depression is a condition that cannot be cured overnight, however, there are ways to alleviate and even avoid some of the factors that lead to being depressed. Clinical depression is a serious medical illness that is more severe than just being depressed. One of the symptoms of clinical depression is being so depressed to the point where it interferes with the functions and routines of daily life. There is hope, however, and someone diagnosed with clinical depression is not doomed to be depressed forever. The following guidelines may ease some of the grief that comes with living with clinical depression.
•Realize that you are in control of your own life. While clinical depression may be caused by chemical and hormonal imbalances in the brain, there are several other factors that attribute to being depressed. Know that there are aspects of clinical depression that you are in control of, such as attitude, habits, and routines.
•Knowing that you are in control, take a step back and assess your current condition. Make a list of things, however trivial or significant, that need to be changed in your life. Take small steps first in order to avoid overwhelming yourself and becoming depressed all over again. Clinical depression is something that you can erase from your life overnight.
•Keep the list you made as a way to track your progress. You’ll find that something that may have normally depressed you will eventually be checked off that list, and you’ll be one step further from being a victim of clinical depression.
•Along with the list, always keep a journal or blog handy to record any events that you may need to avoid in the future. Having certain activities and events logged in your journal will help you recognize patterns and stressors that can set off the clinical depression. It will be easier to avoid and eliminate situations that can trigger the clinical depression.
•Your surrounding environment plays a huge role in whether or not you will be depressed at the end of the day. Try your best to surround yourself with cheerful and joyful positive energy. Avoid dark situations that will undoubtedly lead to being depressed- watch a comedy on TV, or better yet, turn the TV off and pick up a new habit. Listen to upbeat, happy music, and read positive, stimulating magazines or even a self-help book that will help inspire you. Anything to rid your mind of clinical depression and put a smile on your face will do the job.
•Exercising at least 30 minutes every day is proven to improve moods. If you happen to be feeling depressed, rather than just moping around, go outside for a walk to get your blood flowing. You are only encouraging the clinical depression if you stay inside and feel bad for yourself.
Clinical depression can be a serious medical disorder if it is not diagnosed and treated early on. Victims can suffer from being so depressed that life seems like a chore. There are treatments for clinical depression however, and some of these treatments don’t require any pills or therapy. Having a good attitude is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to battle clinical depression.
